Morning Assembly & PCCG
morning assembly in quadrangle cancelled due to wet weather. announcements made over PA; as usual nobody paid attention. PCCG! decided to sing we are one from lion king 2 for teachers' day performance auditions. it's a nice song, but shan't post URL here because currently listening to Les Miserables songs from Hey Mr. Producer, which by the way is a very nice CD you should watch. also, CLASS CIP NEXT TUESDAY! and we haven't planned anything! oh damn.
Science (Biology LAB!)
cut up an onion! and drew it! I never knew onions were this hard to cut. I told my mum this and she said, "It's not the onion, it's how sharp your knife is", and I realized bio knives must be damn blunt from all those whatever people have been cutting. (that sounds gross, like NY is some self-cutting school. UGH! far from it! :D we are a bunch of enthu hyper people! ;D whee)

8 rounds round the track! Ugh! Plus 2 rounds (inc.) of dribbling a ball! and I picked the wrong ball so it didn't bounce and my back broke. (brokeback? OH SHUTTUP GRACE.) we had ms ng today again instead of ms yeo! yay. ms ng rocks. :D haha. then we played VOLLEYBALL! my partner was amelia, yay. and we like kept missing the ball and hitting it onto the road/track. andandand MY ARMS HURT LOL. volleyballs are evil. then we went for

now, instead of being sad, I'm doing a more cheerful and upbeat story! [well, this one DEFINITELY won't be classified as an 'emo-writing'.] here comes my article on Disney happy endings. (admit it; you KNOW Disney churns out happy endings on a highly regular basis.)

Happy Endings: Only a Disney Phenomenon?
Are happy endings just a Disney phenomenon, or are they actually a lesser-known component of reality that few stumble upon?

Speaking as a romance fanatic and one whose film archives compose mainly of light-hearted romantic comedies, I strongly believe that happy endings are possible in real life.

No, I’m not taking a stance as a “Since Disney says so, it must be right” believer, but I’m here to wave my little tiara and heart-shaped flag, and tell you to hope, because happy endings are really part of reality- or at least, in my book.

Look at Katherine Heigl in 27 Dresses; look at Keira Knightley in Pride & Prejudice; and look at Claire Danes in Stardust. Didn’t these heroines all achieve happiness and Prince Charming in one little happy ending? Of course, that’s not forgetting those girls who leave shoes lying about, and those who fall asleep and never seem to wake up.

Judging by the latter, all you’ll have to do is misplace a Jimmy Choo –or even an unbranded rubber slipper- or fall asleep doing homework, and if you wait, someone will come.

Okay, by now, the realistic part of me is kicking. I’m not saying you have to get up and do your part to make your future what you want it to be (what can you do? Put posters saying “I’m looking for Prince Charming, criteria follows”?), but I’m saying,

“Happy endings aren’t just mirages created by Disney to disillusion young writers like myself; happy endings are possible in reality. All you have to do is hope and pray!”

And buy some extra shoes so that it won’t hurt if you misplace some, of course.

a random story written by me in 5-10 minutes. enjoy and sorry for its randomness.

Hoping for Blue Skies
It seems just yesterday that the sky was a perfect shade of blue, with those darling white clouds dotting the sky here and there. The world was happy and so was I, leading what I thought was a perfect life.

And now the overcast clouds are here, ominously announcing their presence with roars of thunder and cackles of lightning, mocking me and my happy ending which was never to be. The crystal balls of years past roll past, broken and lying in shards; so is the future which I always thought to be mine.

The blue skies are a mere memory of yesterday; footsteps etched, footsteps erased but not forgotten just yet. On the contrary, the dark anger of the storms only seeks to highlight the stark contrast between the past and the present, and to remind me of the unseen, unclear future. Their laughter rings in my head, mixing with the laughter of the past, of happier times.

It confuses and blinds me, causing my beliefs to go awry and doubtful and my hopes unfounded. Who am I and what stand do I have in the future? What happened to the happy ending I was supposed to have- and more importantly, how could I have deceived myself that it would actually come true?

We all know that the rainbows only come out in cheerful, animated films; but there is still a small part of me, hoping, hoping…

Finally slightly off hiatus! Okay I need to explain so that in future I don't have to get all confused and neither do you.

I'm moving to my grandmother's house soon before we officially go to Bangkok (if you don't know I'm going to BKK you must've been in hibernation or something) so my wireless has already been transferred here. [I'm in my grandmother' house now.] So while we're back at home, we obviously don't have the Internet.

hey! my last post was my 112th! I just noticed! whoo. so this is my miss-thirteenth post! ;D

I just randomly painted two pictures lol using the poster colours that all of us were ~~forced~~ to buy at orientation.

:DD so my palette was nice and clean but now it isn't that clean anymore, but whatever, here are the pictures!

I have a sense of ACCOMPLISHMENT! haha, I finally finished my picture slide show for my grandmother's 70th birthday party in M'sia this Saturday. there were a lot of hiccups: for example, not enough pictures; too-fast animation; and most of all, LACK OF A PROPER SONG. the original song chosen -"Whistle Down The Wind" by Tina Arena- was replaced by Connie Talbot's "I Will Always Love You" (man, this 6-year-old girl has enough talents to make everyone feel inferior D: haha), only to be discovered that the song was too long.

then I replaced it with several others and still too long, so finally settled for "Over the Rainbow" by Connie Talbot. the length is just right, thank goodness, although a few seconds before the end the song is mysteriously cut off. but I am too lazy to go song-hunting again; it was hard enough to find O.T.R. D: FINALLY IT'S FINISHED! heng. mind you, I must've started at 10 something and now it's 12.30. haha

now I shall do my last quiz!

Hopefully, we'll share the same likes and dislikes and we must get along very well together! And this friendship must last forever, it musn't be an on-off thing.

To live in an utopian world- but then again, in Singapore, we come pretty close to that seeing as our government isn't uber-corrupted or something. But their education system is damn stress! Haha.

Mine, for being such a slacker sometimes.

Collect interest, donate to charity, shop till I drop... there are a lot of possibilities and I can't seem to select one. D:

I realized that when I previously answered this question it was full of must nots and other negatives, whereas when people fall in love they love the other regardless of his/her faults or virtues. So I shall name positives instead, hoping that the future Mr. Darcy ahead shall not have any of the negative traits listed in q18.
-preferably, he will have nice eyes and a smile, since those are weirdly the first things I notice

I'm not too sure. probably loved by someone.

Write a will (if I haven't already done that) and call over all my loved ones and tell them I love them. A lot.

wahlau I feel like laughing after reading john's 20-people quiz (why did I call it a meme? okay whatever). not to be mean but it's seriously funny.

so you see we need 8.0 credits in total and the subjects offered (humanities- social studies and language arts; mathematics and science; physical education...) only come up to 5.5 credits. so I need 2.5 credits from my electives! whoo :DDD

okay so we can apply for full-year (1.0 credits), semester-ly (0.5 credits), or quarter-ly (0.25 credits) electives as long as they come up to the required amount of credits :DD and also we need 5 alternate electives in case we can't get into any of our original applied ones and list them in priority order like PSLE --> sec school lol.

yay I'm approaching my 100th post! xxFLEURxx had almost 150 posts, so I shall try to hit that target before moving to xxSENTI-MENTALITYxx officially! anyway I plan on officially settling into xxS-Mxx when I'm in bangkok. because I have noticed that in all my blogs I'm in different schools. like xxFLEURxx was SHPS, xxMISS-Txx was/is NYGH, so xxSENTI-MENTALITYxx shall be ISB! :DD whoo.

went for my maths SIA mtg in NYGH today! whoo. zest wasn't there cos she's still in m'sia ): but we still managed to get rather far and even finished a lot earlier than 5 p.m. so haha we slacked (jasmine and I were talking about channing tatum and pride and prejudice ROFL) and then went audi to play truth or dare. or rather, truth or truth, because none of us wanted to do dare.

(assuming that whoever chose dare had to do the algorhythm march or however you spell it. it's a japanese dance-like march and it's damn corny. and funny. xDDD)

so we had questions like:

haha matthew mcfayden doesn't seem like a good mr. darcy but you'll find his face sticks in your head and you can't get it out! haha. keira knightley is ♥ too! haha. although the movie seems to make it seem like finding the right guy (a "mr. darcy", according to modern sayings) is REALLY DAMN EASY if you a) live in the past and b) go to balls often.

if you're witty, smart, pretty and have a mother who's obsessed about marrying her daughters off, you'll probably get a rich sullen-faced yet handsome guy who's nice into the bargain.

well, for a Dare [chingying...], I walked up to a chair, stood on it, and said I'M THE STATUE OF LIBERTY AND I HAVE A BOYFRIEND! there are more details, but I'm not disclosing them.

A3: I'm not too sure. Maybe Pingghee? ;DDD There are so many friends, and prioritising is something I am a failure at. xD

A5: In a way. Like yesterday I was worried there'd be no end to life, and with all its stress, but then I remembered God can relieve us of our stress if only we let him.
So, in a way, as long as I reach for my goal to be a better Catholic, I'm not really scared of death. [NATURAL death. I AM afraid of being murdered and stuff. xD]

A7: I want to, but I tell myself that love has to be developed and isn't a whole Enchanted-esque thing, much unlike Danielle's answer in a way xD. Happy-ever-after movies like Enchanted is partially responsible for making me the romance-obsessed person I am- totally unrealistic.

A8: Same question as Danielle- eternity love or eternal? ETERNITY LOVE- um, what does that mean? In a way I suppose it's the same as eternal love, which is what God promises us, and it's also what Disney movies always encourage and promise little ones. Like, you know, one day you'll be skipping through the forest and Prince Charming will just come along and pick you up.

A9: I hope not!!

Breaking news from Friday: It's the HOLIDAYS!

Breaking news from today: none.

Well today I learnt that Andrew Lloyd Webber officially rocks. From what I saw on American Idol he was great, but after watching his 'Celebration' CD (filmed live from Royal Albert Hall) he is really somewhat of a musical genius.

The show started with Tina Arena (I THINK that's her name) and 'Whistle Down The Wind', later to be performed by Lottie, um, something. Turner, I think. Not so sure. But the song is beautiful, somewhat haunting, and well yeah very beautiful.

But what made me fall in love with the whole damn thing was Antonio Banderas and Sarah Brightman singing Phantom of the Opera. They rock! Especially when Antonio kept saying, "Sing for me, sing for me..." It was very haunting. Sarah's voice is very beautiful and high-pitched (although she does look a little scary sometimes, it's all worth it).

There was also Boyzone with No Matter What, and -if I'm not wrong- Elaine Paige (Page?) with Memory, from the musical Cats (another beautiful olde-time memoryish song- 5/6 stars!!).

Only drawback: no Lea Salonga.

I don't know why but I'm in this kind of musical mood lately so I've been listening to A LOT of Lea Salonga youtube videos. There are so many, considering Lea's wide range and TALENT.

She sang for Disney (duet with Brad Kane for A WHOLE NEW WORLD for Aladdin- sure you remember that one; REFLECTIONS from Mulan...) and Broadway (Miss Saigon, Les Mis.....). Her renditions of You Must Love Me, I Still Believe and I Dreamed A Dream are absolutely wonderful.

You won't regret it, trust me!

She also sang 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' from the musical Evita, which I just learnt is based on a true story about this rags-to-riches First Lady of Argentina, if I'm not wrong. The songs written in Evita are wonderful. One of them -not so sure what it's called- was sung by Antonio in the CD.

Surprisingly, Antonio is as good a singer as he is an actor!

Maaan, this post sounds damn corny and advertisement-like, but it's true. Bottom line: Andrew Lloyd Webber (and Lea Salonga xD) rock!

Haha Okay I'll stop here. It's like 11.30, lol. Now that it's the holidays I seem to be sleeping later. Hmmm...

oh yah! details on today's malay cultural appreciation sabbaticals!

we watched sepet a malay film! it was really good!

tagline: "One Chinese boy, one Malay girl, one unforgetable love story."

well it's like comedy-romance-drama, about orked (a malay girl) who falls for ah loong, or jason (a chinese boy) when she buys a takeshi kaneshiro film from his cd stall.

they face many problems because malay and chinese people just don't mix then and they are afraid of their parents' opinions. also, jason has fallen into some trouble with 'jimmy', and at the end of the movie makes jimmy's sister pregnant, causing him and orked to drift apart.

but then orked realizes she really loves him just as she is on the way to the airport to go to england on a scholarship, and calls him- but then jason has been shot on his way to the airport to see orked! the film shows him lying on the ground, several bullet shots on his shirt and arm, with the phone just a few cm away ringing.

but yet, there's a cliffhanger as orked's call is answered by someone who sounds oddly like jason and then the credits start rolling. and all of us are like, WAIT. ISN'T HE DEAD?!

well yeah. it's a very profound movie, made even more profound by the fact I just read DAZ 4 ZOE which is basically about the same problem: racial disharmony.

'sepet' means 'slit-eyed' in malay and many may think it's a link to the way malays look down on chinese and vice-versa in the movie, as they judge by stereotypes.

but as one girl chim-ly put it, the film is called sepet because "some people look at the world through slit eyes, but they need to open up their eyes to see it better".

so chim right! but so right! we all need to open up our eyes. this movie is a must-watch :DDD
